Indoor wall-mounted hydronic module

Hydrobox is Ecodan's indoor hydronic module for wall-mounted installation, inside of which are enclosed all the main components of the plumbing system.

In a very small footprint are housed the heat exchanger, hydraulic corcolator, an expansion tank (except for large split with ERSE-MEE), an integrative electric heater, safety components and the control unit for managing the heat pump equipped with remote control.

Care has been taken in the smallest details, in fact Hydrobox:

  • has a simple, modern and elegant design;
  • has small dimensions that allow installation in kitchens, closets, small technical compartments, basements, etc. ...
  • contains all major components at the front of the unit, so as to facilitate service operations.

By connecting Hydrobox to an Ecodan heat pump, hot water for heating, chilled water and domestic hot water can be provided using an optional tank.

Matching outdoor units

In addition to being a simple and practical solution, Hydrobox gives great flexibility in the choice of outdoor unit.

Split systems can be connected to an outdoor unit from the Zubadan series for better performance at low temperatures, from the Ecodan series, which offers the widest range of options, from multi systems, which combine the comfort of water-based solutions with the advantages of air-based solutions, or from the large split solutions.

Protection of major heat pump components

E-Gen hydronic modules are equipped with a magnetic filter to produce the main components of the heat pump.

Thanks to the use of a high-capacity magnet, they are able to retain 2.5 times particles in comparison with an equivalent mesh filter.

Aligned and spaced

Plumbing connections are now aligned and spaced, and 1-inch female threaded nuts facilitate installation work. It is recommended that disconnecting valves be used for maintenance.

Heat pump programming: maximum comfort and optimization

The hydronic modules are equipped with an electronic control unit for heat pump and system management called FTC - Flow Temperature Control.

FTC

Thanks to FTC, the heat pump can be programmed to provide maximum comfort at maximum efficiency and optimized according to the system.

FTC can adjust the heating water temperature in 3 ways:

  • fixed point;
  • compensation curve;
  • dynamic self-adaptive mode.

Compensation curve

Water temperature varies according to the outdoor temperature detected by the heat pump, without the need for additional probes.

FTC7 also has compensation curve for summer cooling: water temperature is dynamically controlled according to outdoor temperature, preventing the production of excessive cooling while maximizing energy efficiency.

Dynamic self-adaptive mode

Mitsubishi Electric's self-adaptive mode detects the temperature of the indoor and outdoor environment and calculates the heat demand to be supplied to the room, ensuring the correct energy supply while avoiding energy waste. In addition, through dynamic estimation on future trends in room temperature, the system avoids unnecessary increases in the supply temperature; the indoor temperature can thus be kept stable, increasing comfort and energy savings.

The dynamic self-adaptive mode represents a further step forward in comfort and efficiency. In fact, it is possible to select the reaction time so that the heat pump can be adapted to the system terminals: for example, for terminals with high inertia such as radiant systems, the selection of "slow mode" allows the comfort temperature to be reached more gradually, avoiding overheating of the room. Conversely with the selection of "quick mode" for terminals such as radiators, it allows the comfort temperature to be reached more quickly.

Two-zone control

In the case of system consisting of different terminals, e.g., radiant floor and radiators, FTC will effectively regulate water temperature to enable proper terminal supply. The heat pump will produce water at the highest supply temperature (Zone 1) and an FTC-controlled mixing valve will regulate the temperature in Zone 2 at the lowest temperature.

It is also possible to control by mixing valve Zone 1, an ideal solution in case of inertial puffer and Smart Grid, giving priority to the heat stored in the puffer.

New two-zone control kit

The new kit is complete with all components to service two thermal zones, one direct high-temperature and one mixed low-temperature, as well as having 3 selectable circulation pump speeds. It has compact dimensions and is easy to install-a small-sized box that can be installed on the Hydrotank or hung on the wall for connection to the Hydrobox.

Cooling temperature limit

With the purpose of preventing the dew point from being reached, FTC7 E-Gen activates limit temperature control via an external input (dry contact).

With the contact closed, the water set point is forced to a higher value that can be set on the control. In this way, the heat pump will continue to produce and circulate chilled water in the terminals, avoiding surface condensation.

Heating/cooling switching

Receiving a clean signal on input IN13 will now allow switching from heating mode to cooling mode.

The DHW production does not vary, and the local thermostat can be used to control the on/off of the heat pump.

Cascaded systems

For high heat load requirements in heating and/or cooling, up to 6 Ecodan units can be connected in cascade. The system is managed by a master control unit and always operates at optimum efficiency, even at part loads.

Intelligent interlock with boiler

The FTC controller can combine heat pump operation with an existing boiler. The choice of which heat generation to use is made automatically according to the following settable parameters:

  • Outdoor temperature;
  • Operating costs (insert gas and electricity cost);
  • Carbon emission level (enter values of CO2 emitted);
  • External input In addition, in case of emergency, you can operate the boiler as a back-up generator.

SG Ready: integration with photovoltaic systems

For high heat load requirements in heating and/or cooling, up to 6 Ecodan units can be connected in cascade. The system is managed by a master control unit and always operates at optimum efficiency even at part loads.

SD Tool

Dedicated tool for Ecodan systems to enter operation settings and make startup easier. In addition, operation data of more than 2 months are stored in the micro SD card of the data logger and can be used for diagnostic purposes with the use of a pc and dedicated software.

New "Graphic User Interface"

The new remote control provided on E-Gen hydronic modules shows all information in one screen.

The display with colored icons is intuitive and easy to set up.

Intuitive controls

The FTC7 controls on board E-Gen modules are intuitive, as simple as using a smartphone.

Configuration with wizard

The new E-Gen modules have a new guided setting mode. By simply selecting system terminals, FTC7 will adjust key parameters to optimize heat pump operation.

Wireless thermostat

Ecodan's new wireless thermostat enables accurate control of indoor temperature and transmit to FTC so as to optimize heat pump operation with self-adaptive mode.

Through the wireless thermostat, it will also be possible to force ACS operation.
