HWS Hot Water Supply Hydronic Module

.

Mitsubishi Electric was the first company to launch on the market a type of VRF systems for the production of high-temperature hot water - up to 70°C - planned to be used for the production of domestic hot water.

The HWS hydronic module is therefore an innovative and important technological development that uses the most advanced refrigeration technologies and is designed to be easily integrated with VRF CITY MULTI simultaneous cooling/heating VRF systems with heat recovery R2/WR2 series.

Heat recovery plays a key role as the HWS hydronic module allows heat removed from the rooms to be cooled (which would otherwise have to be expelled to the atmosphere) to be reused to contribute to hot water production, raising it to the desired temperature and adding only the heat rates that may be needed.

The HWS hydronic module is capable of providing a return hot water temperature of up to 70°C with heating capacity of up to 12.5 kW per module but scalable based on the internal loads to be met.

HWS

The HWS hydronic module works according to a variant of the two-stage compression principle; in fact, the original principle has long been known, but until now it has only been applied in refrigeration to reach very low temperatures as low as -60°C.

Mitsubishi Electric has instead redesigned the 2-stage machine circuit for medium and high temperature heat production, from 30°C up to 70°C, the opposite of what has been done until now./

This solution allows for both high energy efficiency values and high hot water temperatures, which cannot be achieved with conventional heat pumps on the market today.

In fact, the HWS hydronic module, as mentioned above, uses the "free" heat removed from the conditioned rooms by the heat recovery circuit of the CITY MULTI R2 outdoor units, raises its temperature to the desired value, and makes it available for uses.

This dual process has the advantage of recovering energy from the system and thus increasing overall energy efficiency and raising the water temperature, with minimal energy use.

The Bi-Stage technology of the HWS hydronic module has important advantages:

.
  • Use of R134a refrigerant in the high temperature stage. R134a is a pure, HFC refrigerant, harmless to stratospheric ozone, with only a minimal contribution to the greenhouse effect. It is a refrigerant particularly suitable for high-temperature applications.
  • .
  • Use of refrigerant R410A in the low temperature stage, also an HFC harmless to stratospheric ozone, and with appreciable operating efficiency for air conditioning uses.
  • Minimal energy needs from outside when the system also operates in air conditioning. In fact, the heat removed is used for water heating. When the system, e.g., in summer, operates in predominantly air conditioning, hot water production takes place with very low energy consumption. This allows very high COP values to be achieved.
  • .
  • Continuous variation of the heating power output according to demand thanks to the Inverter scroll compressor, which allows proportional reduction of energy consumption.
  • Minimum footprint and very low weight. Modules can also be wall-mounted in intermediate positions. The use of floor space is almost zero.
  • .
  • Individual stabilization of thermal energy by field devices.

The HWS hydronic module enables hybrid systems: hydronic and VRF direct expansion.

This makes it possible, for example, to carry out domestic hot water heating and warm air heating or cooling of rooms with the appropriate indoor units from the Mitsubishi Electric range (cassette, wall units, ducted, etc.).

The hybrid system, in addition to offering high energy efficiency, offers excellent diversification capabilities that traditional air conditioning systems lack altogether.

The HWS hydronic module can be adjusted to obtain operating regimes and hot water temperatures as follows:
