Securing the well-being of the communities in which it operates, while respecting the surrounding environment, is one of Mitsubishi Electric's priorities. In this time of profound climate changes that are transforming our mountains with sometimes unpredictable effects, new technologies can offer concrete help to all climbers exploring their peaks. This is why Mitsubishi Electric has decided to support, through a donation, the construction and transport to the summit of the Camardella bivouac, the first high-altitude bivouac in La Thuile above 3,000 m, in honor of Edoardo Camardella, a ski mountaineering lover who was involved in an avalanche on Mont Blanc in November 2019.

The new bivouac on the Ruitor Glacier was designed by Progetto CMR, a company specializing in integrated architecture, engineering and design. The structure has a large glass wall that will look in the direction of Mont Blanc, and it will also be visible through a 360-degree webcam mounted on the weather station also built from scratch; the highest in the Graian Alps and one of the highest in Europe.

The construction of the new bivouac took the form of a research project for appropriate materials and construction solutions. Lightweight and durable, it was manufactured in the factory and then coupled and installed at altitude, creating a safe and high-performance cell, as well as being energy self-sufficient thanks to solar panels. A prefabricated, high-performance insulation envelope was used to build it, while underfloor heating ensures perfect comfort. Ariatta Ingegneria Dei Sistemi also collaborated on the project and contributed to the plant design.

"We are living in a very delicate historical moment for our ecosystem, which requires us not only to do what we can to avoid its destruction, placing all, as citizens, the utmost care not to deplete resources and requiring us, as a company, to implement solutions that ensure maximum energy savings, but also to use the technologies at our disposal to ensure as much as possible the safety of our explorers. That is why we are proud to have contributed to the realization of this project, which we hope will be just the first of other similar bivouacs." Said Fabrizio Maja, Division Manager Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning Division.
