MEQ - Excellence that makes a difference among air conditioners

What is MEQ - Mitsubishi Electric Quality

MEQ is much more than a brand name: it is a design philosophy that translates Japanese engineering excellence into concrete air conditioning solutions. In Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners, nothing is left to chance: every screw, every panel, every circuit is designed to ensure construction quality, energy efficiency, safety and durability.

The strength of MEQ stems from the combination of hundreds of design choices that are invisible to the eye but tangible in the user experience: materials selected to last longer, components designed to reduce vibration and noise, technical devices that simplify maintenance and prevent breakdowns.

One aspect that makes this quality unique and recognizable is the consistency in manufacturing. In fact, all Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners are designed, manufactured and assembled in 100% owned factories, never outsourcing production to third parties or affixing the brand name to products made by third-party suppliers.

In addition, all manufacturing plants - whether located in Japan or elsewhere in the world - operate according to the same construction criteria and the highest quality standards, ensuring the same reliability and level of excellence everywhere in the world.

No matter which model you choose, Mitsubishi Electric quality makes no compromises.

The outdoor units are an example of functional design, conceived to withstand time and adverse environmental conditions, ensuring reliability and safety. Every construction detail is thought out with MEQ in mind to maximize durability, minimize the need for intervention, and ensure safety and comfort.

The robust design is manifested in the wire front grille, an element that differs from plastic alternatives in that it is unalterable over time and more secure, being securely fastened with screws. This design choice ensures that the grille will not warp due to high temperatures or come loose, significantly reducing the risk of breakage and maintenance work.

The base of the unit, made of highly corrosion-resistant ZAM steel, is another pillar of durability-oriented design. Unlike painted steel, which can rust if scratched, zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy-coated ZAM steel keeps its integrity intact even in salty or dusty environments. Aluminum and magnesium offer superior corrosion resistance ensuring a long operating life for the air conditioner.

The base also features a wide condensate drain hole and a inclination designed for better drainage, details that contribute to the prevention of stagnation and the proper outflow of condensation water.

The front feet with a "U" design simplify the attachment of the unit during installation.

The one-piece molded front and side panels give the structure exceptional strength, reducing vibration and deformation. This construction approach not only improves structural reliability, but also increases security by minimizing cracks and the possibility of accidental intrusion or contact with internal parts. The side panel is also designed with narrow open spaces both for increased safety but also for better protection of the exchanger.

Finally, convenience and safety during installation and transport are ensured by integrated sheet metal handles on the top panel, which allow safe and simplified transportation of the unit.

"Mitsubishi Electric's focus on design goes well beyond aesthetics, putting safety and functionality at the center with provisions for protection from animal infiltration, fire ignition and spread, and water sealing of key components. This philosophy results in greater reliability and peace of mind for the end user."

To thwart the intrusion of small animals, all air conditioner crevices are sealed with insulating material. Preventing access to the machine's electrical board prevents potential malfunctions caused by animal gnawing or other damage.

Water protection is a priority: the compressor's felt hood never touches the base of the unit where condensation water could be present. In fact, absorption of water by the felt could create a corrosive environment for the compressor. In addition, the cracks near the electrical components are sealed with insulation to prevent water infiltration.

Finally, fire defense is taken care of down to the smallest detail. Although the commonly used compressor cowl felt material is not fireproof, Mitsubishi Electric employs a specific fireproof sound-absorbing felt designed to prevent the spread of flames. The inside of the electrical connection cover is lined with a sheet metal that provides a safety design against the spread of fire. Complementing this protective framework, the electrical connection terminal block is made of thermoset resin, a material that offers excellent heat resistance and helps minimize the spread of fire, unlike the commonly used thermoplastic resin.

The excellence of Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners is not limited to exterior design and advanced protections, but is rooted in the very heart of the unit: the compressor, entirely of our own manufacture. This strategic choice is a key pillar of our design and engineering philosophy.

Being the direct manufacturers of our compressors allows us to match compressor features optimally with the overall design of the unit. This synergy between compressor and unit is not a mere detail, but results in significant improvement in the efficiency and reliability of the entire system.

Valvola LEV

For all Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners, the expansion of the refrigerant fluid is entrusted to the LEV valve, an indispensable component that through technological innovation has replaced the old capillary tube. While the latter offered a fixed flow of refrigerant, the LEV valve dynamically and with millimeter precision adjusts the opening to optimize the state of the refrigerant at all times.

Adjusting the optimal opening of the valve allows direct control over the flow of refrigerant and the jump between high and low pressure in the refrigerant circuit with significant benefits on consumption and comfort.

Furthermore, the LEV valve ensures efficient operation even in dynamic scenarios, such as when outdoor conditions are different from standard ones, for example, during low or high temperatures, or when using longer or shorter piping than necessary. Finally, the LEV valve avoids abnormal noises that might occur in transient phases, due precisely to a failure of electronic logic to control the amount of refrigerant.

Thanks to the MEQ - Mitsubishi Electric Quality branded construction philosophy, every detail is designed to reduce noise while ensuring a perceptible silence, made up of soft starts, smooth operation, and no structural noise even in the long run.

Mitsubishi Electric designs its air conditioners to be almost imperceptible to the ear, thanks to a number of integrated engineering solutions:

  1. Double Silencer (supply and intake):This choice is critical to drastically cut down on annoying hissing and pulsating refrigerant gas. The result is a dampened background noise that ensures a comfortable climate even in total silence, avoiding disturbances at night or during moments of rest.
  2. Fan speed control:the motor adjusts the revolutions per minute smoothly and progressively. This eliminates sudden jumps and dry starting noises, and ensures stability even under varying loads, reducing unwanted vibration and metallic sounds. Operation is continuous and so quiet as to be practically inaudible.
  3. Insulation against squeaks and vibrations: The choice of using technical adhesive tapes instead of traditional compressible foams is a detail that makes all the difference. This solution prevents squeaks and structural noises that might occur after years of use, ensuring quietness that lasts without sagging.
  4. Molded One-Piece Panels: The structural design with one-piece molded panels contributes significantly to reducing machine body vibration. Fewer joint points mean fewer resonances and unwanted sounds, for a solid and acoustically stable structure.

Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners are designed to reduce long-term maintenance costs. With MEQ design, electronic and refrigeration components are easily accessible without complete disassembly, wiring diagrams are clear and large, and all sheet metal edges are folded to avoid the risk of accidents.

Design features with the goal of easy maintenance and consequent reduction in cost and time.

An air conditioner demonstrates its true efficiency not only under ideal test conditions, but especially when it can maintain high and stable performance even under complex and variable scenarios. Mitsubishi Electric designs its systems with this very goal in mind, ensuring comfort and energy savings regardless of environmental challenges.

Comprehensive control of the components and various stages of the refrigeration circuit is essential to ensure stable efficiency under all conditions.

The double temperature measurement probe enables advanced monitoring and highly accurate detection of the state of the refrigerant gas inside the evaporator and condenser. The ability to finely monitor the refrigerant allows for consistently optimized cooling or heating, but more importantly, it significantly reduces the risks of unwanted noise that could result from poor monitoring of the refrigerant state and thus entry of liquid state refrigerant into the compressor.

Correct reading of external parameters such as temperature is key information for the unit's operating logic. In this regard, the external temperature probe is wrapped in a hard plastic protector to be naturally in contact with air but at the same time protect it from the intrusion of dust and debris

The indoor unit is the heart of the user's daily experience, the point of contact between technology and well-being. This is why Mitsubishi Electric devotes design care that goes beyond the visible, integrating advanced materials, refined technical solutions, and details designed to ensure quietness, safety, and durability.

One of the distinguishing features of the Mitsubishi Electric indoor unit is the presence of a physical separator between the exchanger area and the area that houses the on-board electronics. This seemingly simple design solution reveals all the engineering attention to the protection and durability of the internal components. The separator has a dual function: on the one hand, it protects the electronics from moisture, dust, and impurities that might occur during normal operation; on the other hand, during hygienization or cleaning of the unit, it prevents detergent from unintentionally reaching the electronic board and or electrical connections.

Design attention also extends to safety and internal components. Electronic parts are protected by metal shields with fireproof designs, PCB boards are treated with moisture-resistant coatings and equipped with built-in thermistors to prevent overheating. The use of thermoset materials further helps to ensure the electrical and mechanical strength of the unit, even under critical conditions.

All units have standard air filters with a three-dimensional surface area, designed to provide a much larger filtration capacity than classic flat filters, thus contributing to the improvement of indoor air quality.

The focus on airflow control in Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners is articulated in various functions across the entire range of indoor units, from the Kirigamine lines, which feature revolutionary geometries and intelligent 3D control, to the Smart Line models where the horizontal fin can be managed by remote control while the vertical ones can be oriented to either side, for a wide, customized and comfortable airflow.

All indoor units are equipped with installation jigs with a wide central opening, designed to ensure structural soundness and simplify every installation step. Unlike other jigs on the market that use plates welded from multiple parts (with greater risk of flexing and inaccuracies), Mitsubishi Electric adopts a single shaped plate that is strong and precise.

The plate includes useful information directly printed, such as mounting dimensions, and even a dedicated space to place a level, so as to always ensure installation is perfectly level. This reduces errors, speeds up the procedure and improves the final aesthetic result.

But what really makes any Mitsubishi Electric indoor unit distinctive is the consistency of design: whether it is the prestigious Kirigamine Lines, the versatile models of theLine Plus, or the solutions of the Line Smart, each air conditioner is designed following the same philosophy of build quality, quietness and reliability. This homogeneous approach is at the heart of MEQ - Mitsubishi Electric Quality: a guarantee that runs through the entire range and results in uncompromising comfort, in every environment.
